Once upon a time. Isn't that how it starts? Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was raised to be the perfect women. She grew up in a beautiful house, had beautiful manners, and was always beautifully put together. Her mother told her everyday how beautiful she was and that it was her greatest blessing in life. Her mother taught her how to do her hair, her make-up, and dress in a way that would make men come to their door to ask for her. Every time a prince came to the door, he sweet talked his way into making her believe that they could see more than her beauty.
She wanted them to see her pure heart, her loyalty, her ability to fulfill fantasies, and to make their world a better place. She could love with her whole heart and could never hold hate. She was the kind of girl who magnify their strengths and nurtured their weakness until they no longer existed. She was told that she could change boys into men just by her ability to read people and see their insides. She made everyone self-aware in the way that they understood their reasons for every action and decision. She made their life clearer.
She was frequently taken for granted though people tried to protect her and protect her beauty. Someone always managed to say the right things to make their way into her open heart. One man was so mysterious, she had run away from her mom just to see what life was like in his world. But all she found was that he loved the bottom of the bottle as much as he loved her. When she walked away he thought he had lost everything and sobered himself up. Then there was a boy so damaged that she spent many years mending his broken heart and when was free of his pain, she let him go to achieve his dream and be the man he was meant to be. There was the man who held her heart the longest. He was the truest of every pursuer but life had complicated it. She could know longer continue once they had lost what felt like a third of them.
So, she flew away where more people told her of her beauty. Many tried to use her. They took more and more and more from her. They speak to her at night trying to charm their way close to her and anytime she gave a bit of her heart, a bit of her spark was transferred to them. She was left with almost nothing until she decided to know longer give any part of herself to anyone unless she knew them truly.
So she saved herself for the tested and true. She saved herself for those who saw past the beauty and focused on her other qualities. She saved herself for those as romantic as her. She saved herself for the dreamers and the believers. She decided to spend her time building a life for herself and making the world a better place. She focused on charity and her letting her actions reflect the heart she carried deep inside.
She saved herself before all of the men who were suppose to be princes could drain her of the spark she carried. All of these men disguised as prince's came back looking to take some of her spark but she never let any of it go. And then and only then did she stop resenting her beauty. She no longer was a prize, a pawn, or arm candy. She stood on her own.
